“I love Teresa! There is something about the way she walks you through a pose that allows you to squeeze every bit of goodness from it. Her verbal queues direct so well that even a beginner like me can properly move through asanas to get the maximum benefit from them. She is knowledgeable and patient and able to help her students adapt no matter their experience, strength or flexibility. Take a class with her. You won’t be sorry!”  — Carol G.

Strengthen, Align & Mobilize

Workshop Series of 3

Saturdays 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

March 30 – April 13 – April 27

Ever sprained your ankle?

Have pain in your wrists?

Struggle with Knee Pain?

It’s normal and instinctual for us to compensate or guard when dealing with pain or trauma. For most of us, unfortunately, this guarding and compensation can lead to further injury or pain.

Would you like to take a different approach?

The aim of this workshop series is to guide students into exploration of some of the most common imbalances or blocks to our ability to move, both internally and externally. Many of us have sustained injuries or traumas over a life well lived and in these moments, have developed disconnection or compensating habits in our physical and mental body. We may have developed beliefs about what is possible that may or may not hold true in the present. We may have done Physical Therapy initially, but failed to integrate any healing work with the rest of the body/mind.

Utilizing principles and wisdom from yoga, energy science and functional movement, each session will focus on a particular area or action. Students will learn tools to reclaim strength, align energetically and mobilize areas that may have become stuck or stagnant.

This series is being offered both online and in-studio. You may register for the whole series at $120 or drop-in at $49 per session. Information is below

Class size is limited to 12. Some props will be required. Upon registration, you will receive specifics.

Recording will be available for each workshop through May 30.

SEASONAL YOGA COURSES

Spring Equinox Extended Practice & Meditation

Tuesday, March 19

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

In his classical text “Yoga Sutra,” the sage Patanjali reminds his students that our body is the essential vehicle of our soul on its journey towards perfection. He suggests that all yoga practitioners engage in the practice of “Saucha.” Saucha is purification on all levels. It includes the physical cleanliness of bathing your body, maintaining an orderly home, eating healthy food and drinking clean water. It involves mental clarity and speech that refrains from emotionally-charged obsessions and addictions. Saucha is a pre-condition for enjoying inner peace.

Through this practice, we become better at letting go of the mental clutter that arises from attachments to past experiences, demands of the body and anticipation of future events.

Join us for a evening of saucha practice, including meditation, the ritual of energetic cleansing, asana (postures). We’ll begin with a ritual and meditation, followed by yoga- including cleansing twists, different forms of pranayama (breathing) and simple kriyas (cleansing practices) to “burn” away the excesses in our lives. After our closing meditation, we will take time to be silent. There will be time set aside to journal or sit, as you prefer. All levels welcome.

Bring a yoga mat and journal or notebook.

All levels are welcome.

Class size is limited to 12.

COST: $45

Reiki

Reiki Master Training and Certification

Meets for 6 classes, Monthly, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Begins January 16, 2020

It’s been my experience that the best way to teach Mastery is over several months, giving you homework and allowing for you to process and ground what you are learning as well as learn how to use it ethically and responsibly. The level of human consciousness is changing rapidly, and there are some other techniques I’d like to introduce to address how I think and experience the need for energy practices to evolve. Classes will meet monthly for 6 months, for two hours each. You will have homework and meditations to support your personal growth as well as deepening your understanding of how to work with clients. The final class will be offered outdoors with an additional master attunement.

Included in the classes:

  • *Review and use of symbols from level II
  • *Master level reiki symbols and their uses/meaning
  • *Attunement rituals
  • *How to build a Reiki practice
  • *What to watch for with clients and tools needed to respond
  • *Elements of teaching Level I and II
  • *Understanding your own places of resistance to healing yourself
  • *Working in/with nature
  • *Daily meditations
  • *Reiki Master Certification

At the completion of the class, if you have attended all the sessions, you will receive a Reiki Master Level Certification. With this certification comes the responsibility to eventually teach it to others. There are all kinds of ways to use and practice responsibly without making it a business, but I will give you the tools to do that.

Classes are on Thursdays, once a month, from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, with the exception of the June class, which is on a Tuesday.

Dates are: 1/16; 2/13; 3/12; 4/9; 5/7; 6/23.

Class size is limited to 4 students.

Prerequisites: Must have completed Level 1 & 2.

Cost: $110 per session (discounted to $100 for cash payment)

About Teresa Owen

Teresa Owen, E-RYT200, YCEP, C-IAYT, founded Inner Smile Yoga in 2005, to fill a void for those students intimidated or fearful of the growing large studio and fast-paced yoga scene. She is certified in yoga, yoga therapy and as a continuing education provider. She offers both public and private classes, workshops, and retreats in Marin County and Atlanta, Georgia, her current home. One-on-one therapeutic specialties include the nervous system, pelvic floor, asthma/respiratory conditions, hormonal/energy imbalances and a wide variety of orthopedic applications.

She has been studying yoga since 1997. Her primary influences include Tias Little, Aadil Palkhivala, and Mark Horner. She is trained in the Iyengar style with an eclectic mix of intensive work with Forrest Yoga, Vini, and Shadow Yoga. She received her Yoga Therapy certification in 2004.

Teresa’s approach reflects her experience as a longtime competitive athlete, healthcare advocate, event and group facilitator, wife and mother of two young adults. She weaves together her life experience, love of yoga and spiritual exploration, with an eye toward keeping her classes both accessible and challenging.

Skilled in tracking the movement and grounding of energy, she is a Reiki Master and continues to expand her training in other forms of subtle-body healing. She is currently a dedicated student of Shadow Yoga.

Yoga has a clever way of sneaking up on you. With consistent practice, little delicious “aha” moments arise and illuminate your inner knowing.

Inner Smile Philosophy

“You cannot do yoga.  Yoga is your natural state.  What you can do are yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state.”
~ Sharon Gannon

Deeply rooted in the classical Hatha Yoga tradition, we seek to support every student in their quest to find their personal approach to Yoga. Public classes are limited to 8 students for a more intimate and effective learning experience. We strongly believe Yoga is accessible to everyone, regardless of physical limitation. In our small studio environment, there is a strong sense of community and shared learning. Beginners learn from more advanced students and more advanced students learn from beginners.

Every class is designed to be safe, challenging and engaging, regardless of your yoga experience. We give our students a strong foundation in proper alignment and reinforce the concept of “Beginner’s Mind.” Both are essential tools for understanding the energetic principles behind yoga and the “rajas” or “juice” available in a space without force or aggression.

About Reiki

Teresa is a Reiki Master trained in the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

  • Reiki treatments are available for $85/hour or $130/90 minutes.
  • Sliding scale is available.
  • Upcoming workshops schedule
